Dickson County Community Church Service

Community Church ServiceAlthough Sunday mornings usually find local Christians behind the walls of their own churches, the evening of Sunday July 5th united various denominations for the 7th Annual Community for Christ service at the Dickson County High School football field. The weather was a little dismal but that didn’t stop a large crowd from coming together to worship and enjoy fellowship as well as unite in prayer for our community, our nation and our leaders.
This year’s theme for the service, “Passing the Torch”, was an effort to show the youth of Dickson County that they are an important and valued part of our community, by involving them in the service and praying for their lives.
It all started Wednesday night when kids from local youth groups united in prayer at the stadium to pray for the community church service. On Sunday, from the Posting of the Colors and the singing of the National Anthem, to leading the worship for the service, local youth group members demonstrated their leadership skills, synchronization and vocal gifts. The Unity Steppers , from the Word of Life Tabernacle, shared their special talents and showed that there are as many ways to praise the Lord as there are congregations in Dickson; staying true to the mission of the Dickson County Ministerial Fellowship, composed of pastors from local Christian Churches and host of the event, that “our faith in Christ outweighs our differences.” A free concert by “The Escape” was held at nearby Restoration Church after the community service to entertain and encourage local youth groups and the young at heart.
In an effort to unify Christians, encourage one another in faith and to be a service to the community, members of the DCMF (Dickson County Ministerial Fellowship) host 3 events a year; the weekend of the Fourth of July, the Sunday before Thanksgiving and the week before Easter. This year there are plans in the works to make a community effort to support students in September for “See You At The Pole”, (international student led prayer gatherings at school flag poles before school hours). Enoch Lankford, VP of DCMF, summed it up by saying, “we don’t all wear the same uniform but we all have the same Savior”.
Seeing people of Dickson county find their commonality rather than their differences to unite for the good of society will, hopefully, increase our hope and belief in the goodness of mankind as well as enjoy the benefits of their labor in the drive to be a service to people of our county. At the Thanksgiving and Easter Services a collection is taken and then distributed to 5 local charities: The Good News Jail Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, The Help Center, Linda Mayo Domestic Abuse Center and Care Net.

Mike Jennette, Pres. of DCMF, shared that “We all have our own missions, but we come together on 3 core events as one collective voice, seeking the Lord for our county ( the economy, the schools etc.) and asking His blessings.”

Everyone is invited to these community events which are advertised locally and through area churches.

Members of DCMF (pastors of all Christian Churches of Dickson are invited) meet each month with the next meeting at NHC from 11:00 to 12:00 Aug 6th ( with free lunch to follow). For more information contact Mr. Jennette 375-1364.
