P.E.T.E. Walk-n-Roll, Seven Gables

The 1st P.E.T.E. Walk-n-Roll, “POSSIBILITIES through EQUINE THERAPY are ENDLESS”, held at Seven Gables Farm on October 25, 2008, went off with flying colors. Many people weathered the cold to participate in the 5k. All proceeds went to a scholarship fund for equine-assisted therapeutic riding activities for the disabled. Marycarol “M.C.” McDonough established the P.E.T.E. Walk-n-Roll after being rehabilitated from a wheelchair as a client at Seven Gables. M.C. named the event after her first therapy horse Petebilt, an eight-year-old Haflinger.

The Walk-n-Roll featured a 5k through the trails at the farm. Local band “The Usual Suspects” entertained with their down-home bluegrass music. Activities such as a ball toss and apple-bobbing were a big hit, as well as the silent auction for the adults. Dickson photographer Arin Vaughn captured the enthusiasm expressed by young and old alike.

Food was provided by volunteers and additionally featured delicious wraps from Creamy D’s as well as chili burgers and hotdogs with buns from Tennessee Bun Company.

Local author K Hensler signed copies of her children’s book, “Why Worry?” and donated a portion of the proceeds to Seven Gables, something she does regularly. Four middle school girls from Charlotte who illustrated Ms. Hensler’s book volunteered at the event. They did a remarkable job painting faces and the kids were thrilled with the detail of the horses painted.

Seven Gables would like to thank their many sponsors for the event, including: Creamy D’s, Tennessee Bun Company, Pigadilly City Lake Café, Triple S. Cowboy Tack, The Jewelry Store, Dickson Farmer’s Co-op, Kubota, Dillingham Trucking, Roxy Theatre, Dunkin Donuts, St. John Promise Land Church, New Christian Fellowship Sanctuary, Trigreen Eqipment, Farmer’s Family Restaurant, Thunder Alley Family Entertainment, Bedding Depot and More, Cindy’s Café, Silver Spoon, Allegra Printing, Roma Pasta and Pizza, Domino’s Pizza, Goodwings, Renassaince Center, Pop’s Car Wash, Joel’s Body Shop, AMA Distributing Company, Ponderosa, The Vacuum Store, Volunteer Pools and Service, 96 Produce, Volume One Hallmark, Studio 123, We the People, Cutting Edge, New Wave Tanning, and the many individuals who generously helped make the event a success.
